East Brother Beer Co.
East Brother Beer Co. has a brewery and tap room in Richmond, California, north of San Francisco. They are also expanding in a market where many competitors are closing taprooms or going out of business in general. In particular, they opened a large new taproom right in San Francisco on September 13, 2025 called the “Rec Room” and another is opening in Mill Valley on September 19, 2025. They have a small product line of IPAs, lagers, Pilsner, Blonde Ale and a few others. Their stated strategy is “While some breweries constantly experiment with different beer styles and recipes, we take a different approach. We focus on perfecting the tried-and-true recipes of classic beer styles.”
East Brother Beer Co. Red Lager Beer
East Brother Beer Co. describes Red Lager as “Vienna style amber with a biscuity malt presence – clean, crisp, familiar. Red Lager is a variation on Vienna-style lagers but drier and less hop centered. It is a popular craft beer style that highlights malt characteristics. These lagers tend to be light to medium bodied with a toasted or caramel-essence malt character. The hop bitterness has a wide range, going from quite low to medium high. The color of these beers will be copper to bronze with some reddish hues. “
East Brother Beer Co. Red Lager has a 4.6% ABV and 24 IBU. There is no other nutrition information available. It has a “Very Good” rating on Beer Advocate but this is based on only 3 reviews. It has a 3.68 rating out of 5 on Untappd.
Our Review of Red Lager Beer
My favorite style of beer is amber or red ales and lagers, especially Figueroa Mountain Danish Red Lager. When I saw East Brother Beer Red Lager available as a single at Total Wine and More, I wanted to try it.
I liked this beer a lot. While not as good as Figueroa Mountain Danish Red Lager, it was a lot better than Abita Brewing Amber Lager. Like the Figueroa Mountain, it had a smooth and clean taste without any aftertaste, which I cannot say about the Abita beer. I could taste the caramel a bit. I would absolutely buy it again and recommend it to anyone who likes red and amber lagers.
