Our Review of Fruh Kolsch

I have tried Kolsch style beers before, including Best Day Brewing Kolsch, which is one of the best non alcoholic beers I have tried. Calicraft Coast is a Kolsch style very drinkable beer from Northern California. The first real German Kolsch I tried was Gaffel Kolsch which was good and fit the Kolsch description. Generally I do not care about the beer category and its background and brewing technique, but I did a little research about the Kolsch beer style. Kolsch apparently is technically an ale, but mostly considered a lager. In addition, only the 20 breweries in Cologne can legally call their beer Kolsch is Germany. Not that any of this matters; all I care about is whether it is any good.
Fruh Kolsch was also very good. Some others have said it is less hoppy than Gaffel. I do not remember Gaffel as being particularly hoppy, but Fruh definitely was not. I did not taste or smell vanilla, malt or bread; to me it tasted like a regular clean, refreshing and lighter lager, and I found myself wanting another one, which is the ultimate taste test.
For German beer recommendations try Gaffel Kolsch, Erdinger Weissbier, Warsteiner German Pilsener, Franziskaner Weissbier, Weihenstephaner Original Premium Lager, Hofbrau Original, Hofbrau Hefeweizen and Spaten Premium Lager.
