Family Guy
Family Guy has run for twenty two seasons on Fox from 1999 through 2024 with a 23rd season planned for mid-season 2024-25. These are politically incorrect shows like Family Guy we think you may like if you like Family Guy.
Family Guy is a politically incorrect animated sitcom about the Griffin Family living in fictional Quahog, Rhode Island. Creator Seth MacFarlane is executive producer and voices many of the lead and supporting characters. MacFarlane’s natural voice is most like Brian the family dog, who talks. The nuclear family is Peter the father, Lois the mother, three children and the dog.
Fox cancelled the show twice in its early seasons before reversing the decisions. It has generated way too many controversies to list here from celebrities and companies claiming copyright infringement and right wing groups offended by its vulgar humor. Reviews for the show are mostly positive with a few detractors offended by its raunchy and occasionally racist and homophobic storylines.
Shows Like Family Guy – F is for Family
F is for Family ran for five seasons on Netflix from 2015 to 2021. Like Family Guy, it was an animated sitcom featuring a family of five (later six), this time set in Pennsylvania in the 1970s. Comedian Bill Burr created the show and voiced the patriarch of the family, Frank Murphy. The show was also raunchy, but to call it Family Guy in the 1970s would be too simplistic. In particular, Frank Murphy was a hard worker at his job to provide for his family unlike Peter Griffin.
F is for Family was more of a satire of the 1970s and a product of Bill Burr’s comedic satire. The show received critical acclaim. If you like Family Guy, and especially if you like Bill Burr’s humor, F is for Family is the best recommendation for another show you may like.

Shows Like Family Guy – Ted
Ted has run for one season on Peacock in 2024 and has been renewed for a second season. It is a prequel sitcom to the two Ted movies and takes place in 1993-1994 with a teenage John living with his mother and father, Ted the talking teddy bear, and a liberal female cousin who serves as a foil to John’s Republican father. The show bears more resemblance to All in the Family than Family Guy. The stay-at-home mom and war veteran father are more like Archie and Edith than Peter and Lois, and cousin Blaire fills the “Meathead” role.
Ted is a creation of Seth MacFarlane, who also voices Ted, and shares much of Family Guy’s raunchy humor. Despite MacFarlane’s protests to the contrary, Ted sounds a lot like Peter. The show has received mixed to somewhat positive reviews, which is better than I expected.
If you like Family Guy and/or the Ted movies, we believe you will like Ted.

South Park
South Park has run for twenty six seasons on Comedy Central from 1997 to 2023 with ongoing specials on Paramount+. The animated show focuses on four boys in fourth grade in South Park, Colorado, near Denver. Like Family Guy, the show has generated an endless number of controversies from its raunchy and unapologetic take on many taboo subjects. Unlike Family Guy, the show has generated very positive reviews, with several Emmy award nominations and some wins. While some shows are duds, many are laugh out loud spoofs on today’s society, albeit with vulgar undertones.
If you like Family Guy, we think you will like South Park.

Bojack Horseman
Bojack Horseman ran for six seasons on Netflix from 2014 through 2020. The animated show was about a half-man half-horse washed up alcoholic sitcom star from the 1990s who today has plenty of money, a fancy home in the hills and lots of time to drink. Will Arnett voiced the title character. Unlike most television shows, Bojack received mixed reviews for season one followed by universal acclaim starting with season two. Like the shows listed above, it featured politically incorrect satire, this time with the entertainment industry as a main target. Later seasons became increasingly serious, with Bojack facing his demons.
