Hofbrau Original Lager
Hofbrau Munchen describes Original as “Our Signature beer – the Original – is golden in color, full-bodied and with a fine hop aroma. Brewed with three Hallertauer hop varieties and only the finest Bavarian malts make it a superbly well-balanced Lager. The bottom-fermented Hofbräu Original embodies Bavarian cosiness and the special atmosphere of the beer metropolis of Munich. Its full-bodied, finely spicy taste with a distinct hop aroma has made it world-famous.” Hofbrau recommends pairing the beer with sausage and cheese, salads, roast pork, potato and dumpling dishes, pasta and steamed fish.
Hofbrau Original has a 5.1% ABV, 0g protein, 7.9 carbs, 0g fat, 24 IBU and 132 calories (11.2 oz. bottle). It has a “Very Good” rating on Beer Advocate.
Our Review of Hofbrau Original Lager
I have tried several German lagers, wheat beers and Marzens and they have all been so good that I jokingly have said that I am going to stop drinking American beers. Hofbrau Original continues this pattern. This is an excellent lager that meets the description “full bodied.” I would absolutely buy it again and would have considered drinking a second one if I had another. However, I slightly prefer Weihenstephaner Original, which was smooth, crisp, clean, refreshing and had no aftertaste. Weihenstephaner Original is perfect to drink anytime, anywhere, inside or outside, with or without food. The Hofbrau Original and its “malty spicy full-bodied” taste may be better with a meal such as their suggestions, but Weihenstephaner Original is better by itself.
For other excellent German beer recommendations, try Weihenstephaner Original, Ayinger OktoberFest, Warsteiner German Pilsener, Franziskaner Weissbier and Weihenstephaner Vitus.
