Doug Polk, Jennifer Tilly, and Santosh Suvarna brought the action on PokerGO’s High Stakes Poker livestream on Sunday night, clashing in a three-way all in showdown that produced a mammoth $1.1 million pot run four times between the trio.
The game, a one-night-only special edition of High Stakes Poker presented by ClubWPT Gold, featured some of poker’s most entertaining and colorful characters, including Alan Keating, Andrew Robl, and Sam Kiki. But it was the $1.1 million pot between Polk, Tilly, and Suvarna at the end of the night that stole the headlines, as the well-behind American duo faced four runouts against India’s Suvarna.
Four Runouts Decide $1.1m Monster Pot
The action folded around to Tilly in middle position, already in for a $4k straddle, who looked down at K♠Q♠ and made the call. Polk, holding K♥Q♣ in the $8k straddle, bumped it up to $70k, and Suvarna, with A♣7♥ in the $16k straddle, came along to see a flop.
The action heated up as the dealer fanned 5♣J♣10♣, giving Tilly and Polk straight draws, while Polk also picked up a Queen-high flush draw. Suvarna, however, had the nut flush draw. Tilly led out for $150k, half her remaining stack, into the $214.5k pot, while Polk, comfortably covering the other two players, raised to $326k, leading to a snap call from Suvarna, who was incredibly a 70% favorite despite holding only ace-high.
Tilly would deliberate on making the call, asking the dealer, “If I fold, how much will I have left?” Polk then turned to Suvarna and asked if he could offer some advice to Tilly.
“For this price, there aren’t many hands you can fold”
Suvarna agreed, and Polk told her, “For this price, there aren’t many hands you can fold, there’s like a million out there… if you have a really bad hand you should fold, but otherwise you should put it in.”
“Very interesting,” Tilly replied before eventually committing her remaining $154k to create the massive $1,126,500 pot. When the cards were tabled, Suvarna, holding only Ace-high, realized he was a huge favorite in one of the largest pots in High Stakes Poker history.
All three players stood for the monster pot, and when Polk suggested running it four times, Suvarna jokingly countered, “Six times,” drawing laughter from the table before they ultimately agreed on four runouts.
Runout 1: 5♣J♣10♣6♥J♠ One-down for Suvarna as the ace Tilly and Polk called for did not arrive.
Runout 2: 5♣J♣10♣9♠J♥ The 9♠ on the turn saw Tilly and Polk make their straight and chop the second runout, high-fiving in celebration as the river bricked.
Runout 3: 5♣J♣10♣Q♥4♣ The turn once again gave Tilly and Polk hope, but it was soon quashed as the fourth club arrived on the river to deliver Suvarna his flush.
Runout 4: 5♣J♣10♣9♣8♥ The final runout saw an action turn card as Suvarna saw his flush made once again, while Polk was alive just with two outs for his straight flush. However, the river 8♥ only helped Suvarna.
The two-time WSOP bracelet winner Suvarna took three of the four pots, while the dealer and floor staff were left with the unenviable task of working out the split for the chopped second pot.
