The Non Alcoholic Beer Market
Partake Brewing is a brewer of low calorie non alcoholic beers like IPA. The non alcoholic beer market has grown rapidly in recent years with the introduction of non alcoholic beers that taste more like regular beer. Non alcoholic beers have several health advantages over regular beers, including fewer calories, sugar, carbs and of course, alcohol. Non alcoholic means less than 0.5% alcohol, so non alcoholic beers can still have traces of alcohol.
Athletic Brewing is the current market leader in non alcoholic beers with an approximate 19% market share. More and more specialty non alcoholic breweries like Partake Brewing are entering the market, as well as traditional breweries. Not a day goes by without some news story about the rise of non alcoholic beer and societal trends towards reducing alcohol intake.
Partake Brewing
Partake Brewing started in 2017 in Canada. They only brew low calorie non alcoholic beers. Partake brews 8 different non alcoholic beers at this writing, including IPAs, Blonde, Mexican-Style, Pils and limited edition beers. They name their beers exactly what they are “IPA,” “Blonde,” etc. without getting fancy, and all beers are 30 calories or less. Partake distributes beers in the United States and Canada.
Partake Brewing IPA
IPA is one of Partake Brewing’s best sellers. The brewery describes the beer as “Meet the legend that started it all. Our signature IPA is crafted for those who seek the bold hop character of a traditional IPA without the alcohol. This brew brings big, bold hop flavor with a blast of citrus, pine, and floral.” Partake IPA has an “Okay” rating on Beer Advocate.
Partake Brewing IPA has 10 calories, 53 IBU, 0g carbs, 0g protein and 0g fat. It is vegan but not gluten-free.
Our Review of Partake Brewing IPA
If you read our post about ProofNoMore, I bought 35 single non alcoholic beers to try. I started with non alcoholic beers from large well known breweries and followed that up with craft breweries. Then I moved on to non alcoholic breweries, starting with Athletic Brewing Lite, which was better than expected. Many of these were very good and barely discernable from beers with alcohol, but some were downright bad. Next I am going to try 3 from Partake Brewing, starting with IPA.
The Tasting
Before drinking this beer, I wondered how a beer with 10 calories and no carbs could be any good. While I was pleasantly surprised that the Athletic Lite was as good as it was, it at least had 25 calories and 5 carbs.
Shockingly it tasted like an IPA. The 53 IBU is a little high for my preference and higher than any other non alcoholic IPA I have tried so far. Normally I would rate this “3-1/2 to 4 beers out of 5” as a decent non alcoholic IPA. However, given the 10 calories and 0 carbs, I had to go “5 beers out of 5.” While Partake IPA may not be for everyone, I find it incredible that a brewery can produce something this good for people who like beer but need to watch calories and carbs. I only hope there is no future scandal like “The Non Fat Yogurt” episode from Seinfeld revealing that the calories and carbs are much higher than advertised.
