The Non Alcoholic Beer Market
Momentum Brewery is based in New York and brews Momentum Hazy IPA. The non alcoholic beer market has grown rapidly in recent years with the introduction of non alcoholic beers that taste more like regular beer. Non alcoholic beers have several health advantages over regular beers, including fewer calories, sugar, carbs and of course, alcohol. Non alcoholic means less than 0.5% alcohol, so non alcoholic beers can still have traces of alcohol.
Athletic Brewing is the current market leader in non alcoholic beers with an approximate 19% market share. More and more startup non alcoholic breweries like Momentum are entering the market. Not a day goes by without some news story about the rise of non alcoholic beer and societal trends towards reducing alcohol intake.
Momentum Brewery
Momentum Brewery introduced their non alcoholic beers in December 2023. The brewery says “We utilize an innovative brewing process that respects the craft of brewing and preserves the rich, complex flavors and characteristics that make craft beer so appealing. Unlike other breweries, we purposefully avoid using large, expensive dealcoholization machines that cause unnecessary water and energy waste while leaving behind a significant carbon footprint.” Momentum carries four non alcoholic beers, a Black IPA, a Hazy IPA, Golden and Kolsch.

Momentum provides little information about its Hazy IPA other than it has Mosaic, Simco and Amarillo hops. Hazy IPA has 95 calories, 20g carbs, 0g fat and less than 1g protein. There is no IBU information. It has no rating on Beer Advocate and 4 out of 5 on Untappd.
Our Review of Momentum Brewery Hazy IPA
If you read our post about ProofNoMore, I bought 35 single non alcoholic beers to try. I have had about 30 to date. If you add in some others I purchased elsewhere, I have now tried over 40 NA beers. Some have been very good and satisfied my desire to find drinks that taste like beer with little or no alcohol and reduced calories. However, many have not been good. A lot of those have had calorie and carb numbers close to a regular beer. Several of the ones I have tried recently have been weak, and I have found myself more and more craving regular old beers with alcohol.
The Tasting
The first thing I noticed about this beer was the 95 calories and 20 carbs. I have had a few NA beers with higher numbers, but this is still on the high side. Throw in the number of very mediocre NA beers I have tried recently along with limited information and history of this beer and brewery, and I was not exited to try it.
It was much better than expected, and possibly one of the better NA beers I have tried. It was not too hoppy but also not weak and watery like many of the recent NA beers I have tried. The taste was fresh and clean, more like a lager than an IPA. Only at the end at the bottom of the can did I find a bitter taste. I would drink it again.
