The Craft Beer Market
Pizza Port Brewing is a craft brewer located in Carlsbad, California near San Diego that brews Pizza Port Chronic Ale. The craft beer market grew rapidly over the last 40 years after Congress legalized homebrewing in 1978, inspiring many beer enthusiasts to start their own small breweries. Today the overall beer market is saturated, with sales flattening and the number of breweries closing exceeding the number opening. The predicted “beer apocalypse” is upon us

Our Review of Pizza Port Chronic Ale Amber Ale

I like red ales and lagers and shy away from bitter beers or beers with a strong aftertaste. One of my favorites is Figueroa Mountain Danish Red Lager. I believe I have had Chronic Ale on tap before and liked it, but I have not had it from a can.
If you watch the video of the taste test, my initial reaction to Chronic Ale was “meh.” I was definitely thrown by the low 10 IBU. The “light in taste” description was accurate, a bit too light. The “smooth bitterness” was also accurate. However, the more I drank it the more I liked it. It is very drinkable with the described “smooth bitterness” that I did not find overwhelming; however, I still prefer Danish Red Lager.
