The Non Alcoholic Beer Market
Lagunitas Brewing IPNA is the non alcohol version of the very popular Lagunitas IPA. Non alcoholic beers have several health advantages over regular beers, including fewer calories, sugar, carbs and of course, alcohol. Non alcoholic means less than 0.5% alcohol, so non alcoholic beers can still have traces of alcohol. The non alcoholic beer market has been growing rapidly. Major beer companies have introduced non alcoholic versions of their best sellers.
Lagunitas Brewing IPNA Non Alcoholic Beer
This is how Lagunitas describes its non alcoholic IPA: “This Non-Alcoholic IPA uses the same ingredients found in our highly-balanced IPAs (hops, malt, yeast & water), and thus the same deliciousness, but brewed without the ceremonial fez & ancient incantations that normally take it over the edge. Leaving it just less than .5% alcohol.”
“Dank-ish pine-y grippiness from the massive dry-hop of our favorite Yakima Valley hops—Citra, Mosaic & CTZ (Columbus, Tomahawk & Zeus for the acronym-averse)—on a bed of English crystal malts for a smooth backbone & beautiful orange hue. A uniquely-full body and crazy-big hoppy aroma lends to IPNA’s satisfaction.”
Lagunitas IPNA is available in a 12 oz. bottle with about 80 calories, 18g carbohydrates, 3g sugar and 0g fat. It has a low 20 IBU. The calories are on the high side for a non alcohol beer, but that may be because Laguitas IPNA has just under the 0.5% alcohol maximum to be considered non alcoholic. It has an “Okay” rating on Beer Advocate.
Our Review of Lagunitas Brewing IPNA
Lagunitas IPA is such a great and iconic beer, so Lagunitas IPNA was the first non alcoholic beer that we tried. We were thoroughly disappointed. It tasted like an IPA mixed with water. It may be the worst non alcoholic beer we have tried, or possibly second to Best Day Brewing Electro-Lime. We can’t emphasize enough how bad it was, especially considering how good most all Lagunitas beers are. Fortunately we did not give up on alcoholic beers right then, and have since found several good ones that we recommend in other posts.
