East Brother Beer Co.
East Brother Beer Co. has a brewery and tap room in Richmond, California, north of San Francisco. They are also expanding in a market where many competitors are closing taprooms or going out of business. In particular, they opened a large new taproom right in San Francisco on September 13, 2025 called the “Rec Room” and another in Mill Valley on September 19, 2025. They have a small product line of IPAs, lagers, Pilsner, Blonde Ale and a few others. Their stated strategy is “While some breweries constantly experiment with different beer styles and recipes, we take a different approach. We focus on perfecting the tried-and-true recipes of classic beer styles.”
East Brother Beer Co. Bo Pils Beer
East Brother Beer Co. describes Bo Pils as “Bohemian style, golden with a lemony noble hop character — light, grainy finish. Czech Pilsner, or Bohemian Pilsner, is the result of a shift in brewing mentality in early 1800s Czech brewing brought on by contamination issues with the ales they brewed at the time. A German brewer brought to the city of Pilsen lagering method and bottom-fermenting yeasts perfect for cold fermentation. Pilsner Urquell is considered the original example of the style. “
East Brother Beer Co. Bo Pils has a 5.0% ABV and 48 IBU. There is no other nutrition information available. It has a “Very Good” rating on Beer Advocate.
Our Review of Bo Pils Beer
I have had one other beer from East Brother Beer, their Red Lager. I liked that beer a lot. While not as good as Figueroa Mountain Danish Red Lager, it was a lot better than Abita Brewing Amber Lager. Like the Figueroa Mountain, it had a smooth and clean taste without any aftertaste.
My one concern before trying Bo Pils was its 48 IBU. I generally do not like hoppy beers and prefer lagers over Pilsners. However Bo Pils was not overly hoppy. This is the second beer I have tried from East Brother Beer and I would gladly drink both again. It is no wonder they are expanding while competitors are closing.
