Weihenstephaner Brewery
Weihenstephaner Pilsner Beer is brewed by Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan (Bavarian State Brewery of Weihenstephan), a German brewery owned by the Free State of Bavaria located on the site of the former monastery Weihenstephan Abbey in Freising, Bavaria. The brewery claims to be the oldest brewery in the world, but this has not been verified by other sources. There are a variety of documents that date the brewery possibly going back to 1040. The brewery brews a variety of beers and features several wheat beers and many more.

Our Review of Weihenstephaner Pilsner

I have had three beers from Weihenstephaner, their Vitus strong wheat beer, their lager and 1516 Kellerbier. All of these were fantastic. The lager may be the best basic lager I have ever had. I have now tried several lagers and pilsners from a number of German breweries, and while all have been very good, I find that I have preferred the lager over the pilsner at each brewery. The difference has generally been the difference between a 20 IBU and a 30 IBU and I prefer the less hoppy beer.
Weihenstephaner Pilsner continues this trend. This is an excellent pilsner beer, but I prefer the lager. That little bit of extra hoppiness is not for me, although many others may feel the opposite. You can’t go wrong with any of the Weihenstephaner beers.
For other excellent German beer recommendations, try Weihenstephaner Kellerbier, Hofbrau Original, Weihenstephaner Original, Ayinger OktoberFest, Warsteiner German Pilsener, Franziskaner Weissbier and Weihenstephaner Vitus.
