New York New York Hotel & Casino Las Vegas is an MGM property with a New York theme, complete with a Statue of Liberty replica, the “Big Apple Coaster” roller coaster, the “Big Apple Arcade,” the “Bar at Times Square” and more. As an MGM property, staying at New York New York can earn points with an MGM Rewards card for discounted hotel rates, cash bonuses and other awards. We have stayed there several times.
New York New York Hotel & Casino – The Location
New York New York has a great location on the Las Vegas strip. It is a short and inexpensive ride from Harry Reid Airport and close to T-Mobile Arena and Allegiant Stadium. Pedestrian bridges connect the hotel to Excalibur and MGM Grand, and it is a short walk to Park MGM. Excalibur has a tram to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. MGM Grand is the endpoint of the Las Vegas Monorail that goes 3.9 miles to Sahara. Park MGM is the endpoint of the Aria Express Tram that goes to Bellagio.
You can get to a large number of hotels and attractions without needing Uber, Lyft or a taxi. The Park Las Vegas is an outdoor dining and entertainment district between New York New York and Park MGM similar to the Linq Promenade. Beerhaus at The Park is an excellent place for craft beers and sausages, and is packed before Golden Knights games.
Amenities
Rooms at New York New York are pretty standard for Las Vegas. Rooms are clean, shower pressure is good and room sizes are adequate. New York New York is considered one of MGM’s “budget” hotels. Prices are typically lower than some of their other properties like Bellagio, MGM Grand and Aria, but higher than Excalibur and Luxor. My biggest complaint (which is the same at almost every Las Vegas hotel) is that the mini fridge is reserved for products for sale. There is no place to keep leftovers or beverages cold other than the ice bucket.
The pool is also pretty standard. Pool temperature is relatively warm (how I like it) but the hot tub is barely warmer than the pool. I was able to find shaded areas without paying for an umbrella or cabana. The best part of the pool is watching the roller coaster go by. The fitness center is small but adequate if you want to use an exercise bike or other cardio equipment. There are some free weights and exercise machines too.
Restaurants, Entertainment & Gaming
This is the best part about New York New York aside from its location. It is a fun place with lots of activities and food choices within the venue. We prefer the Village Street Eateries, which is supposed to look like Greenwich Village, especially Greenberg’s Deli (misspelled as “Greenburg” on the New York New York website) but there are higher end options like Gallagher’s Steakhouse, a food court upstairs and a Shake Shack just outside the hotel. There are activities galore at New York New York. The Bar at Times Square is located right across from the Village Street Eateries and features “dueling pianos” most nights. The cover charge to sit at a table is pricey at $30, but you can watch and listen from outside the bar. Entertainment and nightlife options, including the roller coaster, the arcade, Cirque du Soleil Mad Apple, Coyote Ugly and more are listed at Entertainment and Nightlife. There is always something happening at New York New York and the place is high energy.
I almost forgot to mention gaming options, which I guess is the reason people go to Las Vegas, or at least used to. The casino is 84,000 square feet and has all the standard games except there is no poker room. There are details at Casino, which claims to have $10 table games, but we could not find any Blackjack or Craps tables under $15. For the card counters out there, many blackjack tables have automatic shufflers and/or 6 to 5 blackjack payouts.
New York New York Hotel & Casino – The Bottom Line
We like the New York New York Hotel as a place to stay in Las Vegas. It is a fun place at a great location and generally less expensive than most MGM and other higher end options. If you are looking for a better pool area, we recommend MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay. If you are looking for luxury, there are a number of higher end Las Vegas hotels. But overall New York New York is a great place.
