Fort Point Brewing Sfivio Beer Review

The Craft Beer Market

Fort Point Brewing Sfivio is an Italian Pilsner brewed by Fort Point Brewing, a craft brewer based in San Francisco. The craft beer market has grown rapidly over the last 40 years after Congress legalized homebrewing in 1978. As a result, this inspired many beer enthusiasts to start their own small breweries. However, today the overall beer market is declining. and the number of breweries in the United States is trending down.

Fort Point Brewing

Fort Point Brewing was founded in 2014 and has grown to have distribution throughout California and two taprooms/beers halls in San Francisco. They brew a variety of beers, cider and NA beers.

Fort Point Brewing Sfivio Beer

Fort Point Brewing describes Sfizio as “an Italian Style Pilsner with a snappy, cracker-like malt body and a tantalizingly bitter finish. This modern approach to pilsner is hopped as generously as an American IPA, but with Noble hop varieties that are more delicate than their American counterparts. Heaps of Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Aurora hops create fragrant notes of pine and eucalyptus as lively as a zip around San Francisco’s rolling city streets.” Sfizio has a 4.9% ABV. Other nutrition information is not verified. It has a “Very Good” rating on Beer Advocate.

Our Review of Fort Point Brewing Sfivio Beer

RATING: 3 BEERS OUT OF 5

This review may be unfair. If you watch the video, I opened the can before turning on the camera, but in the process almost half the can was foam and spilled out all over. So when I poured it into the glass, it was mostly foam. I believe I have had other beers from Fort Point before but I don’t see them on their website.

Despite the “Very Good’ rating from Beer Advocate, I did not like this beer. Fort Point says that as an Italian Pilsner it is hoppier than other Pilsners. While that may be true, it tasted more like an IPA to me than a Pilsner. As for the various tasting notes, I did not taste them, but maybe that is because of what happened to the can and the foam. Bottom line, if you like IPAs, my recommendation is to drink an IPA and not Sfizio.
